Titles are always a bit tricky for me. I never know how to convey quite the right essence of what I want a blog (or essay, short story, etc.) to be in a few simple words. Thus, the title of this blog is something I stewed over longer than I'd probably care to admit. Of course, it didn't help that a lot of the cool blog names are already taken, but no matter. I have finally given this obscure corner of the internet a title! However, it does probably need a bit of explaining.
I want this blog to be a celebration of books. This is a place I hope to share thoughts on books I've read, thoughts on writing, or really any topic even vaguely book related. And I wanted the title of this blog to adequately reflect the wondrousness (I know, not a word...but I made it and I like it so it's staying) of getting lost in a book. Thus, "The Casebound Gate."
In my mind, books are gateways to other experiences, other thoughts, other worlds. Nothing transports you somewhere completely different as quickly and as thoroughly as a book. I kind of see this as an almost magical mode of transport. To find a cool name for the mythical gateways we know as books, I shamelessly googled book binding, which I know nothing about. Basically, long story short, "casebound" is the more technical, manufacturing term for "hardcover" (and it also sounds cooler).
So basically, "The Casebound Gate" is a hardcover entrance to a myriad of new experiences. Although to be fair, I'm also quite a fan of paperback books.
